Practice
Apparel and Equipment
Swimmers provide their own practice equipment (i.e., swimsuit(s), goggles, swim cap(s), and fins.) Please make sure these items are properly adjusted and that spares are readily available.
Girls:
One-piece suits
Boys:
Jammers or racers are recommended. Trunks may be used for practice.
Goggles:
Goggles are a must. The chlorine will irritate the swimmers' eyes
without goggles.
Swim
Caps: Longer hair necessitates wearing a swim cap. Those with very
short hair
may choose to not wear a swim cap for practice, but caps are
recommended for
meets.
Towels:
Swimmers should bring their own towels to meets and practices. These
should be
left in the locker room.
Fins:
Highly recommended. Click Why Fins? to find out how they
are useful in
practice.
Team
suit (optional):
Nice to have for
meets, as well as to serve as a back-up suit.
RFSC
Apparel (optional): Warm
ups, sweats
and other apparel are fun for the swimmers—for practice,
school and
meets. And for parents, too—RFSC tops are great to wear at
swim meets.
For clothing with Swim Club logos, Imaging
World on Main Street in River Falls offers a wide

Where
to buy equipment
RFSC
sells a very limited amount
of equipment as a convenience to members in a pinch; these are available for
purchase in
the office area before or after practice. For practice suits and goggles locally, check out Foster Sports (425-1541) in
River Falls. In addition, Elsmore
Aquatic
(866-750-5543) has a store in the Twin Cities; be sure to mention RFSC to receive special team pricing. You
can go directly
to the
store in the Twin Cities, visit their website, or call and have them
ship to you. In addition, Elsmore and other suppliers usually set
up retail tables at swim meets. There
you'll
find a large supply of practice suits, goggles and other swim
accessories (bags, deck shoes, etc.) for
immediate
purchase at good, often discounted, prices.
Sizing
and purchasing tips
Suits-- Chlorine quickly stretches and thins
swimsuits, so a new
suit should be TIGHT! It should be snug on the bottom with very little
give in
the straps. Most swimmers have a separate practice suit
and competition
suit, wearing their older,
looser suits for practice
and saving tighter suits (or the team suit) for the meets.
Goggles—Each
individual is different and it's best to try on several
types to find the best
fit. Once you've found a style that works for your swimmer,
it's very helpful
to have a spare set on hand.
Fins—Fins
should
be snug but not too tight. To determine the right size fins, it helps
to have
your child try on a pair belonging to a fellow swimmer during practice
(wet
feet and fins really help) -- or ask another parent or a coach for
assistance.
For newer swimmers, the regular style fin is appropriate; for more
experienced swimmers,
consider the medium fins that have a slightly shorter-length blade.
