Calling all RFSC families!  Saturday, November 1, RFHS is hosting a HUGE event--the Big Rivers Conference Girls High School Swim & Dive Meet. We are jointly  hosting this with the HS team, and the main responsibility of RFSC for this meet will be the operating the Concessions (approximately noon-6pm). We'll be setting up, staffing, helping provide food, and helping clean up. We will need EVERY swim club family to contribute in one, preferably two of the following ways:
     --provide a food item
     --provide a drink item
     --work a shift
If you haven't already done so, please visit our online sign-up at Goodledocs,
where you can directly sign up for the food/drink items requested, as well as sign up for a shift. (Note: the first time, you will need to put in your email address and make up a  password, but only that once.) Thanks in advance for your help: this will be exciting AND will be a great fundraising opportunity for our club
P.S. If you have not already received an email from Sue Goblirsch with the instructions for Googledocs, please contact her ASAP. Thanks!

Fun Meet on Monday  A few details to clarify: first of all, it's just for fun and learning. Everyone comes to their own regular practice time, whether that is 6:00pm or 7:00pm. We'll run through typical 50 yd Events, and let swimmers try out a few if they wish.  Any kids not swimming at the time will get into the mood by cheering and getting a sense of a swim meet. We will use stopwatches to catch unofficial times which can help us and the swimmers determine if they're ready to try some new events in real meets. Hope to see everyone on Monday!--posted 09/26/08

Swim Groups  The coaches have grouped the swimmers by age and experience for the summer workouts, and our Calendar lists these groups. Generally, elementary-aged swimmers are Group 1; rising middle-school-aged and older are Groups 2, 3a or 3b, depending on the length of their practices. Group 2 swims for one hour, Group 3a for an hour and a half, Group 3b for two hours. If you have any questions, we'd be happy to help you! Welcome back swimmers! Evening swim practices begin tonight, and swimmers and coaches are eager to get you back into the water. It will be busy this first week especially--the coaches will be spending the next few weeks getting all the swimmers organinzed into lanes and groups. You can help by coming prepared to swim on time, listening closely to instructions and introducing yourself to new swimmers. Coach Kenzie sent out emails to confirm your practice times, and if you didn't receive this information, please ask, or email us to double-check. See you later!--posted 05/19/08

A great article...  Well, you may be on break from swimming right now, but you certainly must be thinking about swimming if you're reading
this! : )  Check out this terrific article that ran recently in the New York Times about Olympic Gold medalist Ryan Lochte. Here's an excerpt:

Even though Lochte has been swimming since he was 9, he has not yet perfected his strokes. “I spend more time on stroke mechanics now than I ever have,” he said.

He also spends part of each practice slowing things way down.

“The only way to really work on technique is to swim very slowly and really think about every little thing that you’re doing,” he said. “How your body is positioned, what your hips are doing, the positioning of your shoulders and hands and feet.”

The rest of the article has more detail and is really terrific. --posted 03/26/08

Almost time...  We had a terrific turnout on Tuesday with many new faces and many more returning ones. A few of you had a conflict with the registration night (you know who you are!), so we'll look forward to seeing you at the first practice to collect your paperwork and fees. Meanwhile, Theresa Barnes is very busy with the registrations, the coaches are planning the swim groups and workouts, and you are probably checking to make sure your swimmer's suits and goggles fit. FYI: We have team pricing available through Elsmore Aquatic: call 1-866-750-5543 or email to info@elsmoreaquatic.com. Be sure to mention RFSC to receive the discount. You can also go directly to the store in the Twin Cities. For those of you who had asked about fins, we use the Tritan fins from Elsmore, and they can help you with the sizing. See you soon! --posted 05/02/08

RFSC Pre-C Finals Entries Due  Meet entries for the PreC Finals meet are due by 8:30 p.m.this Thursday, Feb 7th (--this is also Team Photo night--see below). The meet is going to be held at the River Falls High School Pool - Yeah! This meet is part of the season-ending Finals Meets schedule for the area swim clubs. It is a sanctioned meet - meaning there are stroke and turn judges present and swimmers will be disqualified for stroke or turn infractions. If your swimmer has any 'C' times achieved at a non-sanctioned PreC conference meet and they want to swim this event at C Finals, they MUST swim the event again at a sanctioned meet. This is their last chance for this season! If your swimmer does not have a C time, this is their last chance to go for it! Swimmers cannot swim an event that they already have a C time in from a sanctioned meet. Maximum number of events they can swim is 3. posted 02/04/08

Team Photos THIS Thursday  Team and individual photos will be taken during the 6-7pm practice session this Thursday, Feb 7. (Swimmers during that time will probably not swim, but 7pm swimmers will have practice following the photos.) Like school photos, you have the option to purchase a photo or not, and options to take individual and/or buddy photos as well. Please have your child wear a team suit. Photos must be pre-paid--we'll send order forms home tonight and tomorrow. posted 02/04/08

Sign Up to Help
If you possibly can, please sign up to volunteer as a timer at a High School Swim Meet.
This is essential to our club, because it is in our contract with the RFHS to help out at these meets, and families are expected to participate. Best of all, though, it's easy and fun (no experience necessary), and you and your child (10 or older, please) share in the excitement of a real swim meet. The next meet is Tuesday, October 16--look for emails from Coach Joan. posted 10/01/07

Outside Doors Now and then, the outside doors near the pool entrance will be locked by RFHS staff due to volleyball, basketball or other events, making it necessary to enter the High School through the front doors. If anyone asks you to pay admission, just inform them that you are there for swim club and they'll let you in. This should not happen often during Fall session, maybe once or twice, and we will try to note those days on the Calendar. posted 09/26/07
